Fabric

240
GSM · Heavyweight · range 220–270
Combed cotton single jersey — 100% combed cotton. Piece-dyed, silicone-softened, pre-shrunk to under 4% on the length. The hem gather only looks right if the fabric has weight — below 200 GSM it reads as a bin-liner
Trim: 1x1 rib (neck) · 95% cotton / 5% elastane · 300 GSM

How it's made

Shoulder
Drop shoulder, 4 cm drop — 4-thread overlock + 0.6 cm cover-stitch
Neck
1x1 rib crew, set in the round, back-neck taped · rib height: 2 cm · topstitch: Cover-stitch 0.6 cm through the body only, not the rib
Closure
None — pull-on · hardware: None
Sleeve hem
2.5 cm turned hem, cover-stitched
Body hem
3.5 cm turned casing with a 0.4 cm round drawcord and a metal eyelet each side of centre front. Straight; measured with the cord fully released
Pockets
None. A patch pocket sits in the gather zone and distorts as soon as the cord is pulled
Side seams
4-thread overlock; no side split — a split and a drawcord fight each other
Stitch density spi
12 stitches per inch

Trims & notes

• Round drawcord 0.4 cm (~150 cm)
• Metal eyelets x2 (centre front hem)
• Cord stoppers x2
• 1x1 rib (neck)
• Back-neck tape 1.2 cm
• Woven main label
• Care/content label
• Measure and quote the hem with the cord fully released, and put both numbers on the size chart. A factory given one hem figure will assume it is the finished worn width and cut the casing too small, and then the cord has nothing to gather.
• Cut the casing as a separate strip. Folding the body hem up to make the casing puts four plies of 240 GSM jersey under the cover-stitch and it will skip.
• The eyelets must be reinforced with a 2 cm fused patch behind each. An eyelet set straight into single jersey pulls out the first time someone yanks the cord.
• Do not let the factory substitute flat cord for round. Flat cord will not slide through a jersey casing and the hem gathers unevenly on one side.
• Grade the length by 2 cm but the casing height by 0. The casing is a constant; grading it makes the proportion wrong at XS and XXL.
